As a part of the work period at Arnhems Stadsatelier and Plaatsmaken, Ro Smit organized a Collaborative expo. During the days before the expo people could sit down and make Art in collaboration with the artist.

BACKSTAGE ACADEMY
KunstRAI x ArtEZ BEAR Fine Art alumni
from 27th March to 1st of April At KunstRAI Amsterdam.
The Backstage Academy is an exhibition of visual art where alumni from the ArtEZ Academy in Arnhem showcase their work. A jury has selected pieces from an exclusive number of artists from the bachelor’s program BEAR (Base for Experiment, Art and Research) from a pool of numerous submissions. The resulting collection forms a diverse exhibition that reflects the artistic talent of these young, emerging artists. In addition, the installations, sculptures, and video art at the Backstage Academy are sure to captivate.
The Great Ceramics Show 4

Yeah! It is time again for the Great Ceramics Show! This is the 4th edition of the annually recurring exhibition ‘The Great Ceramics show in which No Limits! Art Castle brings together artists with and without disabilities to express themselves with ceramics in complete freedom. Among the artists represented by No Limits! Art Castle, ceramics is a frequently used medium. Clay allows them room for free expression, but can also have a delaying or grounding effect. At the same time, it teaches them in a gentle way how to deal with unpredictability and disappointment. For clay has a will of its own; an object sometimes looks very different once it has been fired. This year we have an abundance of queer ceramics.
DE.GROEN: MaidenTrip 2023 (2023)

Maidentrip is de overkoepelende titel voor vier solopresentaties van net afgestudeerde studenten van ArtEZ in Arnhem en de HKU in Utrecht. Het gaat hier om studenten van de afdeling vrije kunst.
SBK Sprouts Young Talents (2023)
de 9e editie van SBK Sprouts Young Talents, een unieke en groots opgezette overzichtsexpositie met werken van de meest veelbelovende afstudeerders van Nederlandse kunstacademies. SBK Kunstuitleen & Galerie heeft 24 ‘best graduates’ geselecteerd uit honderden afstudeerders van de 11 meest toonaangevende Nederlandse kunstacademies. Voor het publiek is dit dé kans om onder één dak en in één expositie nieuwe talenten te ontdekken.

The Barattolo Project is an art project to promote horizontal knowledge sharing among different creative fields and community building among creatives.
PAGES THAT MATTER (2023)
PAGES THAT MATTER is a Zine making workshop in collaboration with The Barattolo Project. The first edition was held during Some Days Some Arts 23, and the second edition was given in colaberation with and at PlaatsMaken, Arnhem.
Residence
Residence at Plaatsmaken (2024)
Ro Smit focuses the attention in their residence at Plaatsmaken this autumn on the idea of slow art. How can a body relax while making art? And how does an artist take enough time without outside pressure? These questions affect both Ro’s work process and the performances they make through specific screen printing techniques.

Het rijk der honden by Lieneke Hulshof
In 2024, five artists were given the space to do artistic research in Arnhem under the project name: Arnhems Stadsatelier. This Stadsatelier is a collaboration between the four cultural organizations in Arnhem: Theater a/d Rijn, Placemaking, ArtEZ and The Hub.
Ro Smit was one of these five residents and worked in the Arnhem graphic workshop Placemaking on a series of prints. Lieneke Hulshof, art journalist and curator, wrote about the process of Ro Smit and Plaatsmaken.
